A Pure Source. This is what defines us since the beginning. The will to express ourselves and relate with nature in the purest way possible.
While Lightning Bolt remained committed to this purpose, the World seemed to have unbalanced one side. Not without warning, but suddenly, society needed more. And more. And more. Without giving back. Just demanding and showing off.
It happened that some of the resources were really limited. Others, more lasting, were not being well explored and preserved. Forests were not growing at the same rate as they were being deforested. Animal species were not reproducing at the same speed as ours. Oceans were losing ecosystems. And so on in a vicious cycle.
At a certain point, society finally started to realize this. It was crucial to slow down and eventually stop the wheel.
At Lightning Bolt we always aimed to «Destroy the waves, not the beaches». This is why, for us, sustainability is not fashion. It is a way of being and relating. Because the brand celebrates the passion of the individual and how surfing is one of the purest ways people can connect to nature while using it as a canvas for self-expression.
Through the years we have enhanced our production, which is made in Europe. This means quality and reliability, reduced impacts on logistics and long-distance transports and a social and ecological balanced environment. Lightning Bolt is dedicated to minimize the environmental footprint from the operations and make a positive impact on the Planet. For this reason, we’re constantly looking for the most sustainable materials and the best suppliers, as well as collaborations with initiatives that believe in a waste-free environment. We’re proud to say in a near future all garments will be made of sustainable materials, such as recycled polyester made from certified and traceable «upcycled marine plastic».
Let’s all embrace this collective mission. Let’s preserve the sources the World gave us. The Ocean. In the same year that Lightning Bolt celebrates 50 years of history and a pioneer focus on environmental preservation, the World is also starting the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. It can’t just be a coincidence.
