In the changing and challenging times we are living through it is important that life remains ever positive and that it can be a shared experience between us. Surfing in the main a solitary experience where we indulge ourselves in the ocean, creating unforgettable moments that wash away any troubles we may have and keep us present.

The Single Fin Shootout events are an interruption to our surfing normality. It is a communal experience, a gathering of like-minded souls, of community spirit and the very best of surfing heritage. Riding a vintage board is a great leveller. It demands style and control which form part of the events judging criteria. Along with power and speed these are known in Shootout lingo as ‘The Principles of Shred’. The standard is sky high and the competition is strong but the atmosphere remains electric as the waves get traded in the home town Newquay’s iconic waves.

Approaching its’ 10th annual celebration the SFSO has evolved to become a series of ‘must attend’ happenings on the UK surfing calendar. British surfing has a proud and influential place in the heritage of our culture. On pre 1985 single fin surfboards from all over the world but obviously with a concentration of locally made craft on display. Boards that have been restored, unearthed, cherished and forgotten get waxed and ridden much to the delight of the onlooking crowd. It is a great place to hang and soak up all the heritage and good vibes of the joy of surfing.

With divisions in open, women and juniors as well as social events, expression sessions and film shows the ‘Shootout’ is gaining a dedicated army of supporters all with a love of style and surf heritage that embodies the Lightning Bolt ethos.

Hope to see you down there at our next event. Look out for the upcoming Single Fin Shootout short film at the London Surf / Film Festival which takes place in the capital December 2-4th. You can view and vote for the film in The Shorties >> HERE.

The next trials event will get underway in the Spring 2022 at Fistral Beach in Newquay and keep an eye out @singlefinshootout Instagram for more upcoming social events.
