CONSCIOUS WEAR – LIGHTNING BOLT’S ORGANIC COTTON

Sustainability is in each of our choices.

Therefore, when buying a new garment, it is important to know the compositions and production processes involved. After all, we may be making yet another contribution to a more sustainable and balanced path in the consumption chain. Informed and sustained decisions are conscious decisions.

So, which garments should we prefer? Those that, due to their attributes, represent a lower environmental impact!

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton is a raw material produced and certified based on the principles of organic agriculture.

Therefore, it is the result of a production method that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and human beings, using only natural processes.

In other words, organic cotton comes from non-genetically modified plants, the so-called GMOs (genetically modified organisms), treated only with natural products. The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is not allowed in this type of crop, which represents a significantly lower environmental impact than conventional cotton.

In short, in the production of organic cotton, tradition, innovation and science come together in favor of greater sustainability and benefit to the environment, ensuring that at all stages and people involved, the quality of life is superior.

HOW CAN YOU BE SURE THAT THERE IS MORE QUALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY?

By choosing articles made from organic cotton, we contribute to a greener, ethical and transparent agriculture, with more positive social, economic and environmental impacts.

To prove these, there are certified supply chains. That is suppliers regulated by independent entities that monitor the entire production process. And it is also up to brands to resort only to these suppliers.

Therefore, whenever you want to verify that a product is really organic, you must confirm that it has the OCS (Organic Content Standard) and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification.

LOOKING FOR A GARMENT WITH A PRINT?

MAKE SURE TO CHOOSE A MORE ECOLOGICAL AND INNOVATIVE STAMPING METHOD

When idealizing a print, you must consider technical issues that go beyond design.

One of the main questions is which printing method to use to achieve the desired results and finishes.

Another essential question is to consider what impact Lightning Bolt’s items have on people and the planet.

When buying our products made of organic cotton you can be sure to be making one of the most sustainable choices: in addition of choosing an organic fiber, you are opting for a garment with a digital print. This is a more sustainable technique due to its less waste in ink, water and non-toxicity.

HOW DO DTG PRINTING (DIRECT-TO-GARMENT PRINTING) WORKS?

DTG Printing, as the name implies, is a textile printing process that allows printing directly onto the garment. This technique works similarly to a paper printer. The DTG printer sprays a jet of water-based ink onto the textile until it forms the desired pattern. The ink is subsequently absorbed by the fibers.

There are two major innovations regarding this printing method:

-  It uses water-based inks, without chemicals or artificial dyes, 100% biodegradable.

- Offers high-quality, detailed, photo-realistic prints.

RECYCLED COTTON

In addition to organic cotton, recycled cotton is also a more sustainable option, allowing you to avoid/reduce all consumption of a new production, give new life to surpluses and remnants of the textile industry and prevent them from being given an incorrect destination.

Thus, recycled cotton can be defined as the conversion of cotton fabric – which comes from pre-consumer (production leftovers) and post-consumer (end-of-life fabrics and finished garments) waste – into cotton fiber.

After being collected and divided by color, the waste is cut into small pieces, shredded and reused for new yarn productions, which can later be reused in new textile products.

THE WAVE IS GREEN

We love the ocean, we love the mountains and we love being outdoors.

Thus, we could only strive to minimize the environmental footprint of our operations and make a positive impact on all living beings and the planet.

With a knowledge of the past in mind and the will to contribute to a world able to sustain our future generations, Lightning Bolt remains committed to its ethos: A Pure Source.
